POSTCARDS, OUR MUSICAL TRIBUTE

I’ve never been much into collecting things. Knick-knacks, commemorative plates, thimbles, spoons – my grandmother’s houses were full of these things. Unlike my Mom or my Aunts, I don’t own any collections of patterned china, or crochet tablecloths. No fancy linens or flatware, or glass bottles, or porcelain dolls. For better or worse, I'm a minimalist, which is perhaps on-brand for my generation. Do you collect things? I would love to hear about it in the comment section below.
About a year ago, I moved into a smaller living space and realized I was going to need to get rid of stuff. It was tough deciding what would go and what would stay, but I had donations of clothes, books, dish wares, and office supplies. The hardest thing to donate was art work I had collected over the years. I had to face the truth, I just didn't have the space. ONE THING, however, I couldn’t throw out. It was a stack of handwritten letters and postcards from the last 40+ years. I miss these more simple times when we used to send each other letters and cards.
Today, it's an anomaly to get a piece of hand-written mail. It's mostly flyers and bills, and quite boring. Maybe you get a Christmas card or a Birthday card, if you are lucky. It doesn't seem practical to send much, given the pace of modern correspondence. By the time you receive a postcard, the trip is over. Maybe you already received a bunch of pictures or videos. You know the whole story, and you know it in real time. But receiving a postcard in the mail is very special - it's a tactile snapshot in time.

So now onto our BIG ANNOUNCEMENT: Tin Pan Darlings is launching a song series called POSTCARDS.
These are songs released at different times, NOT an album. Songs that are not necessarily in the jazz tradition; but songs that allow the Tin Pan Darlings to stretch out and blur the lines with other genres. We're taking a musical visit to new places. You can expect the first POSTCARD from us in Spring 2026.
